The Government has finalised the tariffs which are due for implementation in April this year. They are a welcome increase of around 5p/kWh, above what was originally proposed at 36.5p/kWh.

Feed in tariffs (FITs), are part of a Government scheme, that allows
payments to be made to domestic and commercial property owners who install micro generation technologies and connect them to the grid.

There are two elements to FITs: a ‘generation’ tariff which is paid out on the total amount, and type, of energy generated by a household as a direct result of installing micro generation technology; plus an ‘export’ tariff, for any energy that is sent to the electricity grid when more energy is generated than they need. The tariffs are to be in place for 25 years, for PV technology. According to new research, 90% of existing solar PV panels now last for over 30 years, instead of the predicted 20 years, originally forecast.
Due to incentives introduced in various European countries on the installation of solar panels, the cost of these materials has reduced dramatically, with the increased demand for the production of these PV panels.
